When you think of Ninja, the brand's air fryers might be the first thing to come to mind. It has have gained somewhat of a cult following with models for just about everyone including large capacity fryers like the Ninja Dual Drawer Max and low plastic air fryers such as the Ninja Crispi - which also features on my roundup of the best non-toxic air fryers. 

With so many to choose from, it's becoming harder than ever to pinpoint the best Ninja air fryer for your needs and whether you should upgrade your air fryer at all.

That's where I come in. I've been testing air fryers for seven years and have reviewed the majority of Ninja's models, from the original AF100 to the latest innovations. I've also reviewed dozens of air fryers from other brands too.

While there are a plenty of big hitters in the world or air frying - including the likes of Tefal, Salter and Philips - Ninja air fryers have always stood out as some of the best you can buy.

How we test

When testing kitchen appliances like air fryers, we try every model out for at least a week, putting them through real-world tests that you’d likely see in a typical kitchen. 

We test performance by cooking a variety of meals, from homemade chips and classic oven foods, to fish, meat and vegetables. We also assess how noisy an air fryer is and how much energy it uses with specific tools.

Our verdict

If you're a two to four person household with a standard size kitchen, the Ninja Foodi dual drawer MAX is a great allrounder and probably best for the majority of people. It has plenty of useful functions, can cook two foods at once at different times and temperatures and has a decent capacity.

Those on a budget should consider the Ninja air fryer Pro. It's under £100, simple to use but still offers great performance both  in cooking and energy efficiency.

FAQs 

Can I put foil in my air fryer?

While you can put foil in your air fryer, it's better to use non-stick baking paper or a a dedicated air fryer liner. This is because food will tend to stick to foil, even if oil is used. No one wants bits of foil with their sausages.

Just be sure to keep any liners or paper weighed down in your fryer, as the powerful airflow can pull lighter items up to the heating element, creating a fire risk.

You should also clean your air fryer properly. Even if you're using foil to minimise clean up, it isn't a substitute for a good soap wash.

Is an air fryer cheap to run?

Compared to heating an entire oven, an air fryer is cheap to run. You can read more about the long term costs in our full breakdown of air fryers vs ovens. 

Most won't cost you more than 25p for an hour of cooking vs anywhere between 60p to £1.50 for an hour in a standard convection oven.
